A Hindu woman, who had accused a Muslim woman of marrying her husband after converting him to Islam and complained to the state women’s commission to treat it as a case of ‘love jihad’, insisted Tuesday that he be subjected to a medical examination to find out if he had been circumcised.

Amrita Advani told a counsellor at Mahila Police Station that she would initiate legal proceedings against husband Amit and Firdaus, a woman she had accused of wooing her husband, if the medical test proved he married for the second time without converting to Islam and without getting circumcised.

The matter first came to light in June when Amrita wanted to file a case accusing Amit of kidnapping their four-year-old daughter. The police filed a missing complaint and traced Amit and their daughter and brought them back to Bhopal along with Firdaus and her son.

Amit last week offered to divide his time between the two women after Amrita refused legal separation. On Tuesday she turned down Amit’s offer and agreed for separation only after he was subjected to the medical test. Amit told the counsellor that he did not undergo circumcision and that he converted to Islam “only by heart”.

The police, however, refused to order any examination without an FIR and said no case could be made against Amit.
