Advertising about Sri Ganesha fulfilling one’s wishes is deception of devotees; avoid such deception ! – HJS

HJS opposes malpractices taking place during religious festivals !

Mumbai – In pre-independence period, Lokmanya Tilak initiated the tradition of celebrating Sri Ganesha Festival socially for unification of Hindus and protection of culture; but wrong practices undertaken presently in celebrating the festival has defeated the original purpose of celebrating this festival. Various malpractices like forceful collection of funds; spending a lot of money in decorations; playing songs, obscene dances, indecent behaviour with women; consumption of liquor; displaying boards advertising cigarettes and ‘gutkha’ etc. are taking place regularly during Hindus’ religious festivals so also religious fairs celebrated publicly. Such misconduct in religious festivals indicates deterioration of people’s values related to Dharma and culture. Moreover, it is observed that some of the Ganesha festival committees (Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals) are nowadays advertising about ‘Ganapati’ installed by their mandal that “Our Ganapati always fulfills devotees’ wishes”. Such advertisements are deception of devotees. The above appeal has been made by Shri. Ramesh Shinde, national spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) through a press release.

It has been stated in the press release that

1. It is the principle of spiritual science that level of faith and devotion of a devotee decides the outcome of his ‘sadhana’ (spiritual practice).

2. One gets different spiritual experiences on abiding by Dharma with faith and undertaking spiritual practice.

3. Dharma and faith are subjective things; therefore, experiences of people also differ from individual to individual as per one’s faith and there is no hard and fast rule about it. Everyone may not get similar experiences.

4. It is therefore, superstition to advertise about certain ‘Ganapati’ installed by a particular festival committee fulfilling people’s wishes.

5. Such advertisements are made only from the viewpoint of getting more funds and can also be challenged under anti-superstitions Act, 2013. Spreading superstition for one’s monetary benefits is an offense under the law.

6. Legal action can be taken against them.

7. It has been observed that corrupt and selfish political leaders, film stars, administrative officers etc. want to seek God’s grace for fulfillment of personal wishes or when they are booked for their corrupt activities. How can Sri Ganesha bestow His grace on such people ?

8. Saint Tukaram Maharaj has clearly explained about the outcome of people praying to God with ulterior motives.

9. Has anyone prayed to God earnestly for destroying the dangers faced by this country and Dharma; praying for strength to be a part of mission to protect nation and Dharma ?

10. Devoted Hindus should, therefore, pray to Sri Ganesha not for their personal achievements but for the welfare of the people, nation and Dharma; only then will Sri Ganesha grace us !
