Discussion session held on ‘Prudent Media’ news channel on statement made by Shri. Sudin Dhavalikar and opposition by Sriram Sena to pub culture

Panaji (Goa) (6th July) – Narendra Modi was elected to power in the name of progress; but development should not take us to decline. It is necessary to know what people of Goa want about development of Goa. It should be first decided whether we want to convert Goa into Las Vegas, Macau or Thailand or it should remain as Goa. The above views were expressed by Shri. Ramesh Shinde, the national spokesperson of HJS during discussion session held on Prudent Media news channel on the topic of statement made by Shri. Sudin Dhavalikar, Minister- Public Works Department and opposition by Sriram Sena to pub culture. Shri. Sudin Dhavalikar had stated that young women going to pubs in scanty clothes, was against Indian culture. Shri. Pramod Mutalik of Sriram Sena had stated that a branch of Sriram Sena would be opened in Goa and it will oppose pub culture. The discussion session was, therefore, held to know the views of people.

Shri. Appa Teli, former Dy. Superintendent of Police and senior leader of Maharashtra Gomantak Party, journalist and writer Ethel D’Costa, BJP’s MLA, Michael Lobo who had opposed to ‘Play Boy’s entry in Goa and Durgadas Kamat, young Congress leader participated in the program. Prudent Media’s Editor, Shri. Pramod Acharya hosted the program.

Other points raised by Shri. Ramesh Shinde

1. ‘Nirbhaya’ Act was passed after an incident took place in Delhi; but such Act has not reduced the number of rape cases. It is, therefore, not enough to pass laws; but we will have to abide by our culture, traditions and morals. If someone says in this context that we should follow our traditions and culture, what is wrong with it ?

2. Congress Government of Maharashtra imposed ban on dance bars under special rights to curb increasing incidents of rape. Were all boys going to dance bars raped girls after having beer ? Here, Congress adopted policy of moral policing; then why can’t it be adopted in Goa ?

3. There is a law for closing down unauthorized pubs; still such pubs are operated. There is law against corruption; still Anna Hazare had to stage agitation against corruption. What is wrong if someone opposes, in lawful manner, to unauthorized pubs ?

4. Every organization has freedom of thought and nobody can stop any organization from coming to Goa unless that organization is involved in anti-national activities or has wedged war with the country. Here, there is no such case.

5. Taliban’s representatives openly attend programs held in Goa; that is allowed; but Sriram Sena’s Pramod Mutalik is disallowed.

6. Some maulana insists on women wearing ‘burqa’; that is allowed and no Congress spokesperson says a word against it. Moreover, our Constitution has been amended to accomodate the demands of such people; then why is only Mutalik opposed in the name of religion ?

7. A law has been passed in England, Uganda, Russia etc. imposing ban on women wearing short clothes.

8. There have been 24206 cases of rape committed in the country as per the report on crimes and which has now increased by 873. Banning bikinis only in pubs will not solve the problem of women’s oppression; but it will help to curb such oppression.

9. As per medical science, one loses control over mind, power of thinking on consumption of liquor or drugs. If a woman, in short clothes, comes in front of such person, will he not lose control and get excited ?
