Couldn’t die for India, will live for India : Modi

New Delhi : The newly-elected BJP members of Parliament met at the historic Central Hall to elect their leader of its parliamentary group on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion Prime Minister elect Narendra Modi began his speech on an emotional note. "Had Atal Bihari Vajpayee been well, his presence would have completed this moment," said an emotional Modi.

Modi broke down again at the mention of Adavni and said the senior leader "should not have used the word "kripa" (oblige) while making a mention of my contribution". "A son cannot do 'kripa' to his mother."Bharat ki tarah BJP bhi meri maa hai" (Like India, BJP is my mother too)," Modi said, regaining composure after being provided with a glass of water.

Then Modi picked up the same glass half filled with water and said "Some will say this is half-full, some may say this is half-empty. I say it's half filled with water and half with air."
 
"I am very optimistic man; only optimistic man can bring optimism in the country." he added.

Modi said that this is the first time that a government has been formed that is led by people born in Independent India adding that he "couldn't die for India but will live for India"

An era of responsibility has begun, said  Modi in the Central Hall of parliament, which he visited for the first time and went down on his knees to touch his forehead to the steps leading to it in reverence to the 'temple of democracy', Modi said the majority given to the BJP in the Lok Sabha was "a vote for hope and faith".

"A government should be one that works for the poor and this is why the new government is committed to the poor of the country and dedicated to the youth of the country as well as our mothers and daughters," said Modi, adding: "The celebrations, excitement will go on but the era of responsibility has begun." said the 63 year old.

While proposing Narendra Modi's name as the leader of BJP Parliamentary Party during the meet, BJP President Rajnath Singh exuded confidence that he will fulfil all his promises. 'Yes, he will', is what Rajnath Singh has to say about Narendra Modi amidst applause by BJP MPs and leaders in Parliament's Central Hall.

He said that Modi will be an efficient Prime Minister while referring to Modi's slogan during the election campaign. Modi had chanted "Yes, we can! Yes, we will do!" while flagging off the BJP's election campaign in Hyderabad on August 11, 2013.

Modi's name was proposed by party patriarch L.K. Advani and seconded by other leaders including Murli Manohar Joshi, Venkaiah Naidu, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley.

Modi will meet President Pranab Mukherjee today in the first formal step before he is sworn in as Prime Minister probably by the weekend.
