Beltangady : Mosque office-bearer dismissed for attending Modi rally

Beltangady (Karnataka) : The managing committee of Maddka mosque in the taluk, through an order, dismissed Abbonu Maddadka, vice president of the mosque, from his post. It is said that the mosque relieved Abbonu of the post as a consequence of his attending Narendra Modi’s rally held in Mangalore last month.

M Abbonu Maddaka has been active in political and social circles. He was the vice-president of Noorul Huda Jumma Masjid in Maddadka, Kuvettu village, in this taluk. Abbonu reportedly attend the rally that was addressed by BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, in Mangalore.

Some local youth, who grew angry at this development, complained to the managing committee, asking it to seek explanation from Abbonu for this act, and to keep him out of Jamaat activities for a period of five years. They also insisted that Abbonu Maddadka be not given any post during this period.

Abbonu Maddka had worked as the president of this mosque in the past. He happens to be a gram panchayat member of Kuvettu. He also is the vice-president of the taluk Jamayyatul Falah.

At the meeting of the mosque committee, it was decided to keep Abbonu out of the post of vice president till next year’s general body meeting. The demand to ban him for five years from Jamaat committee has not been honoured.

This mosque had received a grant of Rs 12.5 lac when Yeddyurappa was the chief minister of Karnataka, and Rs 5 lac during the period of D V Sadananda Gowda. Siddaramaiah released a grant of ten lac rupees after becoming chief minister, and the first installment out of this grant amounting to five lac rupees was disbursed to the mosque on Tuesday.

N B Abubaker's brothers attacked for supporting Modi rally

Mangalore : In two separate incidents, brothers of former chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Development Corporation, N B Abubaker, were assaulted on Tuesday March 4 morning. Reportedly, the assaulters were angry at the fact that Abubaker’s brothers had gathered supporters for the rally recently organized in the city that was addressed by Narendra Modi. The incidents occurred at Angaragundi in Bykampady.

Cases in this respect were registered in Panambur police station. Out of the two, Usman and Rafique, the condition of Rafique happens to be serious and he is lodged in the intensive care unit of a private hospital. In four separate complaints and counter complaints filed with regard to these incidents, 12 persons have been named.

It is said that Usman was walking towards the house of Abubakker from his house located nearby, when Iliyas and Ibrahim, who came in a two-wheeler, dashed the vehicle against Usman. After Usman fell down, he was attacked with hands, a complaint filed by Usman said. In a counter complaint, Iliyas, who too got admitted into a hospital, said he was assaulted by Usman for no reason.

A gang of seven, within a short time, entered a shop run by Rafique in Angaraagundi, dragged Rafique out of the shop, and beat him up with hockey sticks, bats, and hands. Rafique, who suffered serious head injuries, was admitted into a private hospital. Usman, who has named the assaulters as Haider, Saleem, Faizal, Ashir, Muhammed Ali, and Imran, said that the attackers were angry at the support extended by him to Narendra Modi’s rally. In this case too, a counter complaint stands registered against Rafique, it is gathered.
