Lord Hanuman denigrated through play!

Mumbai: The original name of Marathi play ‘Makadachya haati champagne’ was ‘Marutichya haati champagne’; but devout Hindus protested against the name and it had to be changed. In a issue of ‘Saptahik Chitralekha’, Dr. Vivek Bele, the author of the play has said that the name of Maruti was given originally because according to him, today’s power-hungry politicians are like that of Hanuman in Ramayana. He has compared Lord Hanuman with corrupt politicians. (One is not a true Hindu if his blood does not boil by reading the above. – Editor).

In the review of the play written by Shri. Mukund Kule in the above periodical, it is said that a few staunch Hindus were enraged with the original title of the play and they caused commotion on the stage. (Shri. Kule is daring to term protest registered by devout Hindus against denigration of the deity as commotion. Will he dare to say such things against Muslims had there been opposition by them in similar situation? – Editor). The name was thus changed and the author still feels sorry for changing the title of the play.  Shri. Kule has written in the review that Maruti was the right name for the play as per the author and he had to re-write certain scenes. (The author should thank his stars that he did not have to permanently close down the shows of the play.- Editor). The writer feels that today’s politicians or ‘media’, none of them wants permanent solution to any problems. When Maruti was asked to get medicine from the mountain ‘Dronagiri’ he carried the whole mountain. Nobody says anything about his not finding medicine; but everyone praises him for bringing the whole mountain. (The writer needs to be condemned for saying such things about Maruti. Here, he is exhibiting lack of intelligence by giving such irrelevant examples. – Editor). He said that the character in his play had similarities with that of Maruti who for helping another person’s wife, burnt his tail and set a third person’s city on fire.
