Christians mislead prisoners by propagating Christianity in the name of giving value education

A program on ‘Value Education’ was arranged for all prisoners. The management of prison had extended invitation to all for attending the program; therefore, I also went. There was a demonstration by Christians on how to reduce pain in one minute by praying and how everyone was misled by Christians propagating their religion could be learnt. The related incident is given below.

1. All 8 members sing a song based on prayer of Jesus and one lady encourages prisoners to dance

After going to the hall, I realized that 8 members who had come to present the program, were from one NGO (non-Governmental organisation). They visit jail quite often. These members hold programs under instructions of Prison Ministry.

In the beginning of the program, all 8 members (comprising 2 women, 1 full-time member, 2 Principals of colleges and 3 workers) stood in a circle and prayed to Jesus. Then they sang a song based on a prayer in English. While singing, a woman was encouraging prisoners to dance and she was also dancing. Under her influence, few prisoners also started dancing.

2. After prayer-song, Father tells prisoners about curing any pain within a minute and keeping his hand over a prisoner’s neck, prays to Jesus and asks that prisoner whether the pain was gone. On his answering in affirmative, Father tells everyone that ‘Jesus is great’

After 2-3 songs and prayers, one of them (It was later learnt that he was the Father), he asked if anyone had pain and told that he would cure it within one minute. He asked prisoners to come forward if they had any kind of pain.

One prisoner came forward and told him that his neck was paining. Two workers kept their hand over his neck and prayed to Jesus and asked the prisoner whether his pain was gone,  to which he said ‘yes’. Then all workers started praising Jesus by saying that Jesus is great; he only cured the pain. (In this manner, pain of two prisoners was cured.)

3. To understand cheating by Father, went to him and told him about back pain, later telling him that it was not cured even after prayers

I was quite surprised with all these things and thought that how it was possible; let me find out about his cheating. Later, it was asked if anyone had back pain; so I raised my hand and I started praying to Bhagavan Srikrushna and went ahead. I also started chanting Bhagavan Srikrushna’s name. Father kept his hand over my back and started praying. (He prayed loudly, “O Lord Jesus ! Remove the pain; give me the power…..Hololulu…..) After prayers, he asked me whether the pain was gone; on which I said ‘No’. Then he prayed again; it happened 3 times.

4. Finally, Fr. assured that the pain would be cured automatically and not to worry and made me leave. It was then realized that such programs were organized for propagation of Christianity

Finally, Fr. did not know what to do; therefore, he told me, “Your pain will go automatically; you don’t worry.” He asked me to leave.

This incident made me realize that these people were cheating prisoners and were propagating their religion (Christianity) through such programs.

5. Few points realized during the program with the grace of God

a. The Jail Superintendent was informed that the program was on value education and he was told that teachers would be coming from college which was also in a way cheating.

b. One Christian woman narrated her experience to a prisoner. She told him that she suffered from cataract for which she had to undergo operation. She said that she was also surprised that how ailments could be cured in this manner with prayers.

c. It was felt that such program was in a way cheating of poor and uneducated prisoners and was a conspiracy to mislead them.

d. In this program, it was continuously impressed upon the prisoners that Jesus would be protecting them and Christianity was propagated.

e. After the program, a picture of Jesus and Mother Mary was given to all prisoners. It was also told to them that the picture was to be kept under their pillow and to pray to it before sleeping.

f. Jail administration is propagating Christianity in the name of cultural programs.

g. On behalf of Prison Ministry, such programs are held in jail once in a week.
