Kumbh deaths: Government be taken over? – HJS

Kolhapur: Shri. Satej Patil, a MLA said that the State government has so far not presented such an Act in the Legislative Assembly; but if it does , he assured that the move will be opposed. A representation was given to him on behalf of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) against the proposed ‘Governmentalization of temples’ Act. Shri. Madhukar Nazare, a member of HJS said that putting forth the excuse of mismanagement of temples, the State govt. is planning to bring in this Act.

In fact, there are ample examples of malpractices in temples under Govt. control like Shirdi Trust, Siddhivinayak Trust. He also gave the example of Kumbh-Mela held in Nasik, the management of which was with the State Govt. In this Kumbh-Mela, 50 people died in the stampede. In view of this, it was not at all necessary that the Govt. should take over management of temples. Many leaders of religious organizations and political party like Shiv Sena were present on the occasion.
