Great success for joint fight by
various ‘Gou-premi (Patrons of cows/cattle)’ organizations!

With all the machinery at their disposal, why police don’t come to know what ‘Gou-premis’ can learn ? Is it because they are corrupt or are they not competent to hold their posts ?

36 bulls were rescued by Gou-premis with the help of the police

Panaji : In the night of 25th July, police conducted raid on the biggest unauthorized slaughter-house operated at Calangute for past number of years and released 36 cruelly locked up bulls. ‘Gou-premi’ organizations lodged a complaint in late night and forced police to take such action. Large stock of bones of cattle, skin, big cauldron used in melting fat and weapons were found at this unauthorized slaughter-house. Police have filed a case against the owner of the abattoir, Nesmanto Fernandez under sections 429, 120-B and 295-A and further action is being taken. The bulls released from slaughter-house will be sent to Government barn at Sange.

In the evening of 25th July, an activist of ‘Animal Rescue Squad (ARS)’ noticed bulls being transported for slaughtering. The ‘Gou-premi’ organizations then received news about unloading of bulls at slaughter-house in Calangute. Shri. Govind Natekar, a Shiv Sainik lodged complaint with Calangute police station when Shri. Devidas Gaokar of Sanatan Sanstha, Shri. Nanoskar of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) and John Fernandez of ARS were also present. Then police, along with the ‘Gou-premis’, raided the slaughter-house. They observed that 36 bulls were very cruelly locked up there. Shri. Amrut Singh of ARS went inside the slaughter-house and showed stock of bones, skin, weapons for killing etc. to the police. This unauthorized slaughter-house has been inspected even by officers of Government’s Veterinary Department and they will be submitting report to police.

Remains of the cows and cattle slaughtered by butchers

The butcher from the slaughter-house informed that after slaughtering, animal bones are sent for manufacturing of tooth-paste and medicines. Shri. Hanumant Parab, the President of Jai Sriram Gou-samvardhan Kendra’ from Valpai was also present at the place of incident since morning. He was keeping a watch to check that ‘Panchanama’ was carried out properly and further necessary action was taken. Shri. Tatu Mainkar of ‘Bharat Swabhiman’ and Shri. Ghanashyam Gawade of HJS were present on the occasion. Shri. Kamalesh Bandekar, the Goa-Chief of ‘Bharat Swabhiman Sanghatana’, Shiv Sena’s State-Chief, Shri. Ramesh Naik and activists of ‘Gou-dnyan Foundation’ extended valuable support in this activity.

Police indifferent in taking action, due to political pressure !

Police showed severe indifference in every matter like in filing of case, collecting proofs, sending bulls to barn etc. when complaint was lodged by ‘Gou-premis’ about the said slaughter-house. ‘Gou-premis’ from various places had to continuously follow up with the senior police officers, by contacting them over phone, and for them to instruct Calangute police for getting the complaint lodged, release of cattle and for taking stringent action against the slaughter-house and the guilty. It may be mentioned that despite receiving calls from senior officers, the local police were very slow in taking action. Complaint was lodged by ‘Gou-premis’ at 10.30 p.m. and proofs of slaughtering were also found; but the complaint was registered only at 3.00 a.m. Then statements of ‘Gou-premis’ were noted down. On 26th July, at 1.00 p.m., police started ‘Panchnama’ of the place of incident. Although it was the responsibility of police to send rescued animals to barns; they were not taking any action; therefore, the ‘Gou-premis’ only started efforts for arranging  vehicles to carry the bulls to barn. Nesmento Fernandez, who runs this slaughter-house, has strong political backing; therefore, police were not taking any action promptly and ‘Gou-Premis’ expressed anger over such behavior of the police.

When are those involved in slaughtering cows, going to be arrested ?

‘Gou-Premis’ have expressed their doubts considering the time wasted by police in rescuing bulls, whether Nesmento Fernandez is going to be arrested for running slaughter-house in an unauthorized  manner; or whether he is going to be let off under political pressure. Why the accused was not yet arrested despite getting solid proofs?
