Australia : Wasim Akram has found love again. On Monday, the former Pakistan Test captain proposed to Shaniera Thompson, a former public relations consultant from Melbourne.

According to a report in the Australian media, Akram (47) proposed to 30-year-old Shaniera.

"He asked me what my dream proposal would be and I said I'm not the type of woman that likes a big scene. I would want it to be at home or somewhere private. He was really sweet about it. Then I came into the lounge room and he was on his knee and asked me if I'd marry him," Shaniera was quoted as saying.

To make it "official," Shaniera, who has already converted to Islam, asked Akram to speak to her father. The former speedster readily agreed and got Shaniera's dad's blessings.

The two first met in 2011. Their growing friendship helped Akram deal with the grief of losing his first wife, Huma, who died in October 2009 due to a cardiac attack.

A father of two sons, Akram is excited as well. "I never thought I would get married again, but I am lucky and very happy to find love again. It just goes to show that life can give you a second chance," Akram was quoted as saying.
