It has been observed that in one State, police are pursuing activists of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) through various inquiries. One such activist has bitter experience of police inquiry. Officers from Intelligence Bureau have been calling up this activist 4-5 times every month and making inquiry in different manner. They ask him questions like ‘What activities are going on now? What is future planning? Where is he staying presently? Can information about office bearers and registered members at district and State level so also national level be made available?’ etc.

Police also asked him whether they could visit him at his residence or insisted that the activist should go to their office for discussions. Although it has been made clear to the police that there is no concept of office bearers or registered members; still similar questions are being asked by the police every time when they call up. Besides, police are also inquiring about him with seekers of Sanatan Sanstha. Thus relentless pursuit by the police is going on.

It has been observed that police are making inquiry about him even at schools, college where he studied, about his behaviour as a student, his family background etc. When this activist attends some public function, even then, inquiry is being made by calling over cell phone. –  An activist of HJS

Recently, police from a local police station conducted inquiry with two seekers of Sanatan about activities of Sanatan and HJS. A report on the same is given below.

Inquiry no. 1

Two policemen (one in uniform and another in plain clothes) from local police station went to a seeker’s house. They asked the following questions to that seeker.

Police : What activities of Sanatan are carried on at your place?

Seeker : There are some ‘sattvik’ products of Sanatan like soap, perfume, camphor, ‘udbattis’ etc. which are sold; I deliver its weekly periodical ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ .

Police : Who are the people working for HJS? Who is the chief ?

Seeker : There is no chief. There is nobody from HJS working here.

Police: heard that many people gather at his place.

Seeker : Presently, the house is locked.

Police : Where has he gone ? (Seeker gives information.)

Police : What is the nature of propagation that is made by you ?

Seeker : We get a printed paper; we study it and tell people.

Police : What is printed on the paper ?

Seeker : On 15th August, plastic national flags are sold and later, they are found thrown all over the roads. People trample them resulting in the insult of national flags. The paper is representation creating awareness on stopping manufacture of plastic flags. During Diwali, crackers are sold with pictures of Sri Lakshmidevi. When such crackers are burst, pictures of the Goddess get torn into pieces leading to desecration of the Deity. There is information in this representation about prevention of desecration.  (Police have been given this information on number of occasions; but why are they wasting seekers’ time by holding similar inquiry? – Editor SP)

Police : Do you have that representation now ?

Seeker : No, I don’t have it now; we distribute it amongst people.

Police : Your wife’s name is registered at our police station.

Seeker : Yes. Many times, group of women go to police station for submitting representation and their names are printed on the representation. That is why her name is there. (How police do not have this information? It is a kind of mental harassment of seeker by asking unnecessary questions ! – Editor SP)

Police : Where is Sanatan Sanstha’s office ?

Seeker : There is no office as such.

Police : From where do you get the material (sattvik products) sold here ? (Seeker gives information.)

Police : Where is Sanatan’s main office ?

Seeker : Main office is at Goa.

Police : Ok, will come again.

Inquiry No. 2

A constable from local police station went to the shop of a seeker. He said that police officer from his police station wanted to talk to him and he dialled the no. on his cell phone. The Police Officer made the following inquiry.

Police Office : Do you take part in Sanatan’s activities?

Seeker : Yes.

Police : Means what do you do ?

Seeker : We impart ‘Dharma-shikshan’.

Police : Where is your office ?

Seeker : There is no office.

Police : Then from where do you work ?

Seeker :  We meet people and explain, create awareness in them.

Police : What does a seeker sell ?

Seeker : Sanatan’s ‘sattvik’ products are sold. I also keep them in my shop for sale.

Police : Ok, Ok

After the above inquiry, a police constable from the same police station called up the seeker and asked him following questions.

Police : Do you take part in Sanatan activities ?

Seeker : Yes ( Police took contact no. of one lady-seeker from him.)

Police : Who is looking after HJS work here ?

Seeker : No one.

Police : Ok Ok.
