Black marketing of donation alleged in a famous temple!

Mumbai: Donations received in foreign currencies are being converted into rupees by an unauthorized agent for a famous temple in Central Mumbai. A news item has been published that it is not known whether proper accounts are maintained in this regard. A very renowned temple in Central Mumbai collects donations in foreign currencies during the months of July to September from devotees coming on a visit from different countries.

Foreign currency can be officially converted into rupees only by banks with deduction of tax at certain rate. But a person from the temple is getting the foreign money converted into rupee in an illegal manner from an agent. When the agents had a doubt about the transaction, they made enquiry and found out that the foreign currency sent for conversion, comes from a famous temple. Besides, it was also noticed that no account has been maintained of the foreign currency. It has also been noticed that some of the officials of Government and private banks are also involved in buying such foreign currency in an unauthorized manner. Police department says that such transactions do take place but they were not aware that even the money collected by way of donations in temples could be misused in such manner.
