Kerala : Imam held for sexually assaulting boys

Malappuram (Kerala) : The police have arrested an Imam of a masjid at Padinhattupai near Kakkanchery in Malappuram district for allegedly indulging in unnatural sex with boys. The arrested was Abdullakkutty, 56, a native of Melmuri near Malappuram.

Police said that Abdullakkutty had forced three boys living in the surrounding area of the masjid for unnatural sex, when they arrived to offer Namaz in the masjid.


The paedophile’s cruelty was revealed when the boys’ friends wanted to know why they did not turn up for Namaz in the masjid.  They said that Abdullakutty had sexually used them at his room in the masjid many times.Child Line office in Malappuram received a complaint on Tuesday regarding the incident.  The volunteers of Child Line Muhsin, Anwar and Sreejith visited the houses of the children at Kakkanchery and gave special counselling on  Wednesday. Child Line volunteers helped the parents to lodge a complaint against Abdullakuty at Thenhippalam police station.

The secretary of the masjid committee has also given a complaint in the police. Police arrested Abdullakutty, who was absconding since last Tuesday, from his house at Melmuri, on Thursday morning.

Abdulla joined the masjid as Imam in the masjid three months ago. Child Line workers also collected evidence from the room of Abdullakutty.
