Puducherry : The temples protection committee will stage a fast near the Head Post Office on May 27 to urge the government to conduct Mahakubhabhishekam in Manakula Vinayagar koil, Vedapureeswarar Koil and Varadaraja Perumal Koil.

Suresh Nandha, general secretary of the committee, said these important temples were not properly maintained despite thousands of devotees thronging them on a daily basis. The temples were not opened for darshan at 5 am in the morning, the general secretary added.

The fast has been organised to invite the attention of the authorities on performing the Mahakumbabhishekam and the upkeep of temples as they were very important places of worship for Hindus.
