Maharashtra : Five Muslims arrested in connection with theft in 6 temples in the State

Dharashiv (Mumbai) : Five Muslim thieves have been arrested from Karnataka by local Crime Branch for stealing an idol from Mahadev temple at Bhatangali in Lohara taluka. The District Police Superintendent, Dattatraya Karale gave the above information in a press conference held on Monday. These Muslim thieves have admitted to stealing idols from 6 temples.

1. On 20th February 2011, silver idol of Mahadev weighing 15 kgs was stolen from the temple.

2. Police arrested five thieves viz. Gilani Shaikh Sayyad, Abbas Ali Sayyad Ali Shaikh, Lala Imam Shaikh, Sultan Shaikh and Maula Sultan Shaikh from Aland, Gulbarga in Karnataka and from Mazalgaon and Beed from Maharashtra and conducted inquiry.

3. They admitted to stealing Mahadev idol from Bhatangali.

4. They also admitted to stealing idols from 6 temples at Para in Vashi taluka, from Sriram temple at Tadavala in Dharashiv taluka, as also idols from Upala, Sangam from Parbhani district, Nagapur , Parali taluka and Sautada in Patoda taluka.

Inquiry about theft of famous gold idol of Sree Ganesha from Dive agar is also being conducted, informed Dharashiv police to police from Raigad. A squad of Raigad police will soon reach Dharashiv to conduct inquiry of these thieves.
