Mumbai: Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) staged demonstrations at various places all over Maharashtra against denigration of Shri Dattaguru through a song in Marathi film ‘Deool’. HJS has undertaken similar drives to strongly protest against Hindi and Marathi films whenever there was denigration of Hindus’ seats of worship. Recently, Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district coordinator of HJS for Mumbai, Thane and Raigad called on Mr. Gulabrao Pol, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for law and order for the State of Maharashtra and submitted a representation demanding that ‘The Film Censor Board’ should not henceforth, issue certificate to such films that attack Hindus’ faith, a person with religious background should be appointed on the Board and stringent action should be taken against the persons involved in denigration through films. Similar representation was also submitted to the Chief Minister, Home Minister, Home Secretary, Opposition leader in Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council.

Main points of representation

1.  In English, Hindi and Marathi films like ‘Love Guru’, ‘Kambakht Ishq’, ‘Jodha Akbar’, ‘Gallit Gondhal Dillit Mujara’, ‘Shahanpan Dega Deva’ etc., mockery was made of Hindus’ Gurus, Deities, Saints, ‘mantras’, great national heroes, holy scriptures and religious ceremonies. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has submitted memoranda to the Central film Censor Board on number of occasions and discussed the issue; but the Board has not taken any action.

2.  It has been observed from the correspondence with film producers, directors etc. that although they accepted denigration in their films; the Censor Board was not ready to accept such denigration. The same Censor Board, however, takes cognizance of complaint received from  Christians and Muslims in connection with insult of their objects of worship and takes prompt action against such film.

The Censor Board constantly tramples religious sentiments of Hindus and creates law and order problems by issuing certificates to controversial films.

Police personnel should be appointed on Censor Board ! – IGP

Mr. Pol said, “Once the Censor Board issues a certificate for release of film, police cannot do anything. It then becomes necessary to go to Court for justice. If denigration of seats of worship is to be avoided, police personnel should be appointed on Censor Board. Many objectionable things are shown even against police in films and their image is maligned.”

HJS congratulates Mr. Pol

There are many incidents of denigration of great national leaders, Deities etc. through persons dressing up like them which creates law and order problem. Mr. Gulabrao Pol had therefore, issued a circular on 12.6.2009 to all police staff for prevention of such incidents. HJS, therefore, thanked him for the same. Sanatan’s calendar for the year 2012 was presented to him by HJS on the occasion.
