Dear Sir,

Subject: Request to immediately cancel paying  tribute to M. F. Hussain at 13th Mumbai Film Festival

This refers to a news article about ‘Mumbai Film Festival To Pay Tribute To Shammi Kapoor & MF Hussain at http://www.koimoi.com/bollywood-news/mumbai-film-festival-to-pay-tribute-to-shammi-kapoor/ wherein ‘The 13th Mumbai Film Festival, organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI), Scheduled to be held from 13th to 20th October in Mumbai, will celebrate three cinematic geniuses: legendary actor Shammi Kapoor, artist-director M. F. Hussain and director Mani Kaul. The academy will pay tribute to the Indian cinema giants through a special screening of their works.

We would like to bring to your notice that MF Hussain has hurt the Religious and National sentiments of crores of Hindus and Indians through his blasphemous paintings of Hindu deities and Bharat Mata (Mother India). This has resulted in promoting enmity between different religious groups and disturbing National integrity and harmony. He was accused of committing offences under section 2 of the prevention of Insults to National Honour Act. The court cases are still pending.

Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is a registered NGO doing social, religious and National welfare work. Devoted Hindus doing voluntary charitable work have formed this Samiti. Samiti is active throughout India and educating people about Dharma in scientific way and solving problems connected with National, Religious and social field. We strongly object to your above programme  glorifying an ‘Anti – National’ and ‘Anti – Hindu’ M.F.Husain.

Please note that in view of the above, various organisations and Indian citizens are not keen on any exhibition, distribution or sale of any of the paintings of M.F. Husain. A long list of successful campaigns against M.F.Husain can be seen on our website at.https://www.hindujagruti.org/activities/campaigns/national/mfhussain-campaign/
(e.g. removal of Husain’s paintings from ABN Amro Bank’s Credit Card, NGO Khushi’s auction of 6 crores of rupees painting, Tao Art Gallery, India International Trade Center (New Delhi) etc.)

In view of this , tribute to Anti-Hindu and Anti-National painter M F Husain will amount not only to glorifying an accused person but also further hurting religious sentiments of Hindus and National sentiments of Indians.

Your action of paying tribute cannot be fulfilled at the cost of National Honour and one’s religious beliefs. In fact Husain has also not spared animals as he has depicted his cruelty and perversion towards animals by drawing pictures of sexual union between animals and Hindu Goddess and human beings. e.g. He has drawn a painting showing a bull copulating with Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva watching on Mahashivratri, another painting shows Hindu Goddess Durgadevi in sexual union with Lion.

Hence you are requested to stop the group show to pay tribute to Anti-Hindu and Anti-National painter M F Husain and honour the National sentiments of Indians and religious sentiments of Hindus. We support paying tribute to other legendary persons.
Please acknowledge the receipt of this letter and prompt action taken in the matter.

YoursTruly,

S.G.Vatkar

HJS opposition to glorification of anti-Hindu painter M F Husain by ‘Mumbai Film Festival’

HJS activists taken into custody while demonstrating; since granted bail

Mumbai: Mumbai Film Festival (MFF)’ has organized screening of a documentary film on Hindu-hater and anti-national painter late M F Husain during the film festival going on in Mumbai as a mark of paying tribute to the painter. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) has opposed glorification of Husain and activists of HJS staging demonstrations on Friday evening, were taken into custody by the police and later released on bail.

HJS had written a protest letter to the organizers demanding cancellation of the program. HJS had also contacted Mr. Shyam Benegal, the President of ‘Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI)’ to register protest; but he did not agree with the HJS demand and insisted on carrying on with the program as per schedule; therefore, HJS sought permission for staging demonstrations from Amboli police station against glorification of Husain. Police issued a notice to HJS as per the provision of Sect. 149 of Indian Penal Code. While demonstrations were staged in the evening, 6 men and 2 women activists of HJS were taken into custody by the police, they filed cases against them under sect. 37 and 135 of Mumbai Police Act who were later released on bail.
