HJS members protesting against the play at Mumbai |
Mumbai - Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) held intense agitations against anti-Hindu play titled ‘Pencil se brush tak’ as it glorifies anti-Hindu and anti-national painter, late M F Husain. Mr. Satish Sonar of HJS made an appeal to all for boycotting the said play as Husain has trampled religious and national sentiments of Hindus by drawing nude and indecent pictures of Hindu Deities as also that of Bharatmata. Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district coordinator of Mumbai and Mrs. Varsha Thakar staged the demonstrations along with 30 activists of HJS.
Mr. Narendra Surve of Dharmashakti Sena spoke about Husain’s taking citizenship of Qatar thus showing distrust in the judicial system and Constitution of India. He said that people who have received free ticket of the play should just discard it and return home. Owing to HJS’ agitation, there were only about 200 viewers in the theater which has the capacity of 1000. It was also observed that most of the viewers were Muslims. On Saturday, HJS delegation had made a demand with Mr. Sahni, the Chief Executive Officer of Nehru Centre for cancellation of the show of the above play. Mr. Sahni had promised to omit objectionable paintings of Husain shown during the play; but refused to cancel the show; therefore, HJS held demonstrations against the play.

Police issue notice to HJS activists !
Mr. Sahni had assigned some space to HJS in front of Nehru Centre for holding demonstrations; even then, police were advising, time and again, that HJS activists should not held demonstrations. Police also issued a notice to Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the district coordinator of HJS, Mr. Harshad Khanvilkar and Mr. Narendra Surve of Dharmashakti Sena under clause 149 of Indian Penal Code. Police also did video-shooting of the whole demonstrations. (Instead of taking action against those who are denigrating Hindus’ seats of worship through plays, anti-Hindu police show law to the activists of HJS who are staging demonstrations, in lawful manner, as per the right conferred by Indian Constitution to citizens. Detailed News
Mumbai: A play based on the life of anti-Hindu and anti-national painter M. F. Husain titled ‘Pencil sey brush tak’ is to be staged on 19th September at 7.30 p.m. at Nehru Centre, Worli. As Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) learnt about the same, Mr. Shivaji Vatkar, the Mumbai district coordinator of HJS sent a protest letter demanding cancellation of the show of this play. Delegation of HJS also had discussions with the organizers about their objections to the play. The organizers told the delegation that it was not possible to cancel the show but assured them that there would not be any denigration in the play.
The delegation of HJS called on Mr. Satish Sahni, the organizer as also the former Police Commissioner and the Chief Executive Officer of Nehru Centre and discussed in detail about their objections to the anti-Hindu play. After listening to the contention of the members of the delegation, Mr. Sahni called up Ms. Nadira Babbar, the producer of the play and read out the protest letter submitted by HJS and the objections raised in it. Ms. Babbar promised that only incidents from ‘Ramleela’ would be shown and there would not be any denigration.
Mr. Sahni told the delegation members that he would attend the rehearsal of the play and instruct to omit objectionable part from the play. He said that he was also a Hindu and would not tolerate denigration of Deities. When HJS demanded cancellation of the play as it glorified anti-Hindu and anti-national M F Husain, Mr. Sahni said, “The show of this play has been planned well in advance and cannot be cancelled at this stage; but we will take care that no denigration takes place.” HJS delegation had earlier lodged a complaint with Worli Police Station and a senior Police Inspector accompanied the delegation to Nehru Center for discussions. He too said, “We cannot stop the show of the play; but HJS can stage demonstrations in lawful manner. We will extend cooperation to HJS.” HJS delegation comprised of its members viz. Mr. Narendra Surve, Harshad Khanvilkar, Pankaj Mhatre and Mrs. Janhavi Bhadirke.
Controversial pictures shown on the screen during the show of this anti-Hindu play
A screen is put up in the background of the stage and indecent paintings of seats worship of Hindus are shown on the screen during the play; thus causing denigration. The following incidents have been painted on this screen.
1. Nude Srikrushna is sitting on a cow and playing flute and He is surrounded by nude ‘Gopis’.
2. Incidents from ‘Ramleela’ have been shown making mockery. Lord Hanuman with His head cut and burning tail has been shown in almost nude, indecent and obscene condition.
3. Nude Srikrushna is hiding and watching women taking bath in the river.
(One cannot be a Hindu if his blood does not boil after reading the above ! Husain has thus stooped to such low level and denigrated Hindus’ seats of worship. Would he have dared to paint such denigrating pictures of objects of worship of Muslims or Christians? He could commit such sins only because Hindus are tolerant ! – Editor SP)
Earlier in April 2009 also, show of the same play was organized at Pruthvi Theatre in Juhu and at NCPA, Churchgate when HJS had strongly objected to the same. Devout Hindus had boycotted this play.

Dear Sir,
We have learnt from the advisement which you have given in the news paper that the play “Pencil Sey Brush Tak” is being staged at your theatre on 19th September 2011. We hereby inform you that the said play is about M F Husain against whom a number of criminal cases were in progress in our country. When this play was scheduled on 25th April 2009 at Prithvi theatr Juhu, Mumbai there were lot of protests and police complaints.
Further please note that the play has scenes denigrating Hindu deities and Hindu Dharma e.g.showing naked Lord Krushna with naked Gopies , naked Hanuman without head , Ramleela scenes with vulgar language etc. By glorifying anti-Hindu painter M F Husain through this play will hurt religious sentiments of Hindus. Further it will create enmity between two groups.
Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is an NGO engaged in Nation building ,educating and uniting Hindus. For details please visit our website www.hindujagruti.org By this letter we request you to cancel the staging of this play at your theatre and oblige
In case you do stage the play in spite of our protest letter, we will have no option but to start protest campaign. Please acknowledge receipt. Trust you will inform us the action being taken in the matter and oblige.
Thanking You,
Yours Truly,
Mr.Shivaji Vatkar
