Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) : Following Vatican agent’s attempt to rename Shakthan Thampuran Nagar in Thrissur over Pope Jhon Paul 2nd , Latin Catholics in the capital city now wants to rename famous Shanghumugham Beach under the very same Pope who has been promoted as a Saint recently by Vatican.

Latin Catholic Churches have distributed pastoral letters expressing their intend to built a big cross in the beach and to rename the place as Pope John Paul Nagar. Shanghumugham beach is considered as the ‘Arattukadavu’ of Sri Ananthapadmanabhan – The presiding deity of the city.

Thousands of Hindus perform ‘Bali Tharpanam’  during special occasions in this very same place. Shanghu mugham is the prime location for Ganesh Nimarjan at the time of Vinayaka Chathurthi.

The move to plant a cross and rename the beach is considered to be a purposeful act to destroy the communal harmony.
