Panaji: GMDSM demands to declare Govt.'s strategy to protect Hindu temples

Panaji (Goa):
The Government has not taken any concrete step to protect the temples thefts hence they have continued. More than 227 temple thefts have taken place so far in the last 5 years; but the criminals are still free to rob more temples. Gomantak Mandir and Dharmik Sanstha Mahasangh (GMDSM) has demanded from the Government the strategy, it is going to implement to protect the temples by way of demonstrations before the Collector’s office, North Goa ON 5th May.

A memorandum too has been handed over to the Collector. The copy of the said Memorandum is going to be forwarded to the Chief Minister. The demnds mentioned in the memorandum are as follows. The damages of all the temples which were robbed and the idols being damaged should be paid immediately. The police should investigate seriously and find out the criminals involved in the temple thefts and Idol desecration in the last 5 years and punish the culprits at the earliest.  ‘Temple Protecting Squad’ for the state at Taluka level should be established. To enable speedy investigation of the temple thefts ‘Special Investgating Squad’ should be established. The Collector of North Goa, Mr.Vardhan gave the assurance to the delegates that he will hold meeting with GMDSM and temple trustees to protect temples. After this demonsstration were held at Azad maidan.
