10.A.1.  Treasonous Government collects hard-earned money of its citizens in the form of tax but levies no import duty on the material and equipment brought from other countries ! : The Central Finance Ministry has announced that no import duty would be levied on the sports material and the equipment required for transmission of the game on TV. (Tarun Bharat – 21.2.2011)

10.A.2. Like the descendants of Nero, ministers from ruling party prefer to attend the inaugural function of cricket tournament rather than attending a meeting held for discussing problems faced by Maharashtra :  The Chief Minister, Pruthviraj Chavan had planned a meeting with MPs elected from the State to discuss about presenting the problems faced by Maharashtra and to get enough funds allocated during the Budgetary session of Parliament for solving these problems. This meeting was attended by only 38 MPs out of 67 MPs elected from the State. 7 ministers viz. the Central Agricultural Minister Sharad Pawar, Central Rural Development Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Energy Minister Sushilkumar Shinde besides Prafull Patel, Murli Deora, Gurudas Kamat etc. did not attend the meeting as most of them preferred to attend the inaugural function of World Cup Tournament. (Dainik Sanatan Prabhat, Magh Pournima, Kaliyuga Varsha 5112 [18.2.2011])

10.A.3.  Elected representatives from all parties consider watching a cricket match more important than solving water problems of citizens. Will such representatives be concerned about welfare of the people? : ‘In the last session of Goa Legislative Assembly, MLA Damodar Naik stood up to discuss the issue of distribution of water tanks and water-pumps seeking time of half an hour for presenting his views. The Deputy Speaker Maven Godinho, however, demanded to postpone the discussions on the following day in view of the ongoing cricket match. Congress MLA Dayanand Narvekar also supported his demand. Opposition leaders and most of the MLAs agreed; therefore, the Chairman Pratapsingh Rane had to postpone the discussions to the next day and wound up the sesson half an hour before time.’ (Dainik Sanatan Prabhat, Phalgun Kru. 7, Kaliyuga Varsha 5112 [25.3.2011])

10.A.4. Indian elected representatives, like descendants of Nero, kept the session of Legislative Assembly for half a day because they wanted to watch a cricket match : On 30th march 2011, the session of the Legislative Assembly was closed in the afternoon so as to facilitate MLAs to watch the semi-final match between India and Pakistan.

10.A.5. Self-destructive Congress PM invites Pakistan’s President and PM to watch the match although they are the silent supporters of terrorist activities in India ! : Dr. Manmohan Singh, the Indian Prime Minister had gone to Mohali, Punjab to watch the semi-final cricket match in the World Cup Tournament   between India and Pakistan. Dr. Singh invited Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani to watch this match. (Dainik Sanatan Prabhat, Phalgun Kru. 9, Kaliyuga Varsha 5112)

10.A.6. Owing to the spineless Congress Rulers, even World Cup cricket matches in India are played under the shadow of terrorism ! : On 2nd March 2011, the Intelligence Agencies gave a written warning to Indian Cricket Board and Director General of Police about likelihood of terrorists attack during the world  cup final match similar to the ones taken place in the year 2008 in Mumbai. (Dainik Sanatan Prabhat, Phalgun Shu. 5, Kaliyuga Varsha 5112 [10.3.2011])

10.B. Hindus have lost their senses due to World Cup Tournament !

10.B.1. Instead of thinking about ways to solve so many serious problems and constant attacks on Hindu Dharma, traitorous Hindus perform ‘Homa-havan (sacred fire)’ for Indian cricket team to win the World Cup ! : Cricket fans had organized ‘Homa-havan’ and ‘puja’ at many places for the victory of Indian team in the World Cup Tournament that started from 17.2.2011. The staff of Sri Siddhivinayak Mandir had made a demand of a special ‘puja’ for the purpose.  After the management agreed for such ‘puja’, many cricket –lovers attended the said ‘puja’. The person who performed the ‘puja’ informed, “Sree Ganesha –devotee Sachin should be able to play throughout the matches without getting injured; let him be able to perform well in the matches; we have not been able to win a single World Cup so far when he played for our team so let Indian team win the World Cup with Sachin in the team, are the appeals we have made to the Lord.” Similar ‘puja’ and ‘Homa-havan’ were performed in Baroda, Chennai, Bengaluru etc.’ (Dainik Sanatan Prabhat, Magh Pournima, Kali Yuga Varsha 5112 [18.2.2011])

10.B.2.  There is a custom in Rajasthan to give a sword to the bridegroom during marriage ceremony to develop ‘Kshatra-tej’ in him but instead of following the custom, ‘bat’ and ‘ball (instead of coconut)’ were given which was an extremity of cricket attacking Hindu customs and traditions ! : Marriage ceremony of 45 couples was arranged in the Municipal Hall of Udaypur. There is a custom to give a sword to the groom in the marriage ceremony; but the people affected with cricket-fever, offered the grooms ‘bat’ instead of ‘sword’ and ‘ball’ instead of coconut trying to extend best wishes to Indian team when the grooms rode on horses to the venue. The ground where the marriage ceremonies were performed was decorated like a cricket ground instead of the usual traditional decorations. Big posters were displayed wishing luck to the cricketers.

10.C. Damage caused to the young generation and students due to the World Cup !

10.C.1. Cricket Board spoils the social health by arranging World Cup during the examination periods ! : ‘It has become a headache for the parents in India as the World Cup Tournaments are held during the examinations period. Nobody has yet thought about this problem.’  (Dainik Sanatan Prabhat, Magh Pournima, Kali Yuga Varsha 5112 [18.2.2011])

10.C.2. It is necessary to give a serious consideration to holding of international tournaments during exam period ! : ‘If tournaments like World Cup are held during examination period, which student will be able to concentrate in his studies? Few years back, the channels used to avoid showing such programs during this period. At many homes, cable wire showing  such programs on various channels used to be removed during the examination period; but it does not happen now. Many times, World Cup matches where Indian team is playing are kept on Sundays; therefore, if students have test on Monday, they are unable to study on the previous day i.e. Sundays. Since the matches are held ‘Day and night’, students give the excuse of not studying due to such matches. I feel that there is a need to consider these things seriously. – Mrs. Renuka Shahane, actress (Loksatta, 6.3.2011)

10.C.3.  Youth paint their faces with chemical colours to encourage players and put their health at stake ! : At many matches, cricket fans paint their faces with ‘tattoo’ of tri-colour or paint whole face just to encourage our players. This leads to skin allergy or the colours used for hair can also damage hair. This is the opinion of experts. The chemicals used in the paints can be very harmful. There are people outside the cricket grounds for colouring faces or hair and effect of the colours they use,  can last for a long period or permanently. Many people face problems like losing hair or skin allergy etc. or the poisonous chemicals can cause rash on the skin or reddening, swelling of the skin.

10.C.4. Sudhir kumar Gautam wasting his life due to his craze for cricket :  Sudhirkumar Gautam, a resident of Jharkhand gets his body painted like a ‘tri-colour’ and attends a cricket match. He has watched 165 matches like this. He has been attending all world cup matches. If he has to go to another place to watch the match, he wears the jersey given to him by Sachin. Sudhir has not married due to his love for cricket. He considers Sachin as ‘Rama’ and him as ‘Hanuman’. He insists that he intends to be always loyal to ‘Rama’. He is trying to get pay from Indian Cricket Board. He has applied to the Board in writing; but is yet to receive a reply. (Dainik Tarun Bharat, 2.3.2011)

10.C.5. Indian young generation is ready to even sell part of their body/ organs for their passion towards cricket ! : A young man named Sanjay hailing from Jharkhand was waiting outside the grounds for 3 days just to get a ticket to watch India – Pakistan match on 30th March 2011. He did not get a ticket; but the gamblers were selling a Rs. 250/- ticket for Rs. 20,000/-. Sanjay said that he did not afford to buy a ticket for Rs. 20,000/- but was ready to sell his kidney to buy a ticket at such inflated price.

10.D. Perversion of ‘match fixing’ and gambling’ in World Cup Tournament !

10.D.1. Main example of deterioration of the game owing to match-fixing ! : ‘On 30th March, the Pakistani Home Minister Rehman Malik warned his team to be ready to face the consequences of ‘match-fixing’ in the semi-final match between India – Pakistan. ‘Information is being collected about the Pakistani players. Watch is kept on people going to meet the players, telephone calls received by them etc.  We cannot take risk when 3 players were found involved in the ‘Spot fixing’ in Britain’, said Mr. Malik.

10.D.2. This is a n example of – Those who speculate in cricket matches are multi-millionaires and who carry weapons are fiends ! : On 25.2.2011, Bengaluru police unearthed a big ‘racket’ of gamblers staking money in World Cup matches. They confiscated more than two millions of rupees and few weapons. They also found 25 cell phones, a laptop, few cell phone SIM cards and addresses. Two vehicles were taken into custody in this raid. All the confiscated items were worth the value of Rs. One Crore. These bookies had two private security guards and had 32 revolvers with 12 rounds. One such revolver has also been confiscated. (Dainik Tarun Bharat, 26.11.2011)

10.D.3. The rates of gambling change with every match and sometimes the stake changes at every hour. Bengaluru police informed that the gambling has spread to even villages and new bookies are entering the field. (Dainik Tarun Bharat, 26.2.2011)

10.D.4. College students also join gambling which is an unpardonable damage caused by cricket ! : A renowned Institution in Chandigarh has recently found in its survey that many college students are taking interest in gambling. They are staking about Rs. 10 to 40,000. Few students might have won the gamble but many students have lost their money; still that has not kept them away from gambling. Some big gamblers have realized this and are targeting colleges. Since the students don’t have to pay anything initially, they keep on gambling. There are persons engaged by the gamblers to recover money after the students lose. Crime investigating branch of Mumbai Police is now paying more attention to college gamblers. – Nishad Andheriwala (Loksatta, 27.2.2011)

10.D.5. Before start of World Cup Tournament, International Cricket Board, through their detectives, keeps vigil on players who can fall prey to ‘match fixing’: Before the start of World Cup Tournament, the anti-corruption squad of International Cricket Board had prepared a list of players who could fall prey to the lure of ‘match fixing’. The players so listed were kept under a vigil by the Board by appointing detectives for the purpose. – Ninja Hatodi (Dainik Tarun Bharat, 2.3.2011)

10.D.6. Doubt was raised about match fixing’ in the match played between Australia and Zimbabwe in World Cup 2011; therefore, International Cricket Board conducted inquiry : In the World Cup 2011, in a match played between Australia and Zimbabwe, Shane Watson and Brad Hayden batted very slowly in initial overs giving scope to suspect ‘match fixing’. The Australian opening batsmen could make only 28 runs in the first 10 overs in the match; therefore, such doubt was raised as how could a strong team like Australia make only 28 runs in the first 10 overs against such weak team like Zimbabwe. It has been more than ten days since this match was played; but now few things are coming to light. Could it be a matter of ‘Spot fixing’? Presently, the International Cricket Board is conducting inquiry of Australian team and the matter has been handed over to anti-corruption squad of the Board. – Ninja Hatodi (Dainik Tarun Bharat, 2.3.2011)

10.E. Act by Indian players show lack of patriotism !

10.E.1. Why to play National Anthem if Indian cricketers cannot even stand properly during the Anthem? : On 27.2.2011, before the match between India and England, national anthems of both the Nations were played. The Indian players were standing in different poses, some with their hands at back, some in relaxed state, some with their feet apart etc. during the Anthem. We learn in school that we should stand ‘in attention’ when National Anthem is played; how our players lack knowledge on the subject? If National Anthem is going to be insulted in such manner or if you do not want to even stand properly when it is played, why to play the National Anthem? – Mrs. Uttara Kanyalkar, Goa (Gomantak, 5.3.2011)

10.F. Wrong actions of spectators

10.F.1. Remember that the behavior of players and spectators is a ‘litmus’ test of ethics of that country ! : On 4.3.2011, match between Bangla Desh and West Indies was played at Mirpur in Bangla Desh. When the Bangla Desh team got out for a meager total of 58 runs, the spectators became rowdy and pelted stones at West Indies players. (Loksatta, 5.3.2011)

10.G. Right actions by spectators !

10.G.1. Not only when we play against Pakistan; but always sing National Anthem with patriotism : Before the match between India and Pakistan started, Indian player Yuvaraj Singh had made an appeal to the spectators that they should join singing of our National Anthem and show their patriotism. On 30.3.2011 before the match between India and Pakistan, both the teams were standing in front of each other. First the National Anthem of Pakistan was played and all 5000 Pakistanis who had crossed Wagha Border to watch the match, started singing their National song loudly. It was their intention to tease India. Will Indians go to Pakistan and exhibit such daring? The appeal made by Yuvaraj, however, was of help as 30,000 Indians present on the ground started singing our National Anthem outdoing the volume of sound made by Pakistanis. At least for that moment, patriotism was generated among the spectators. It will, however, be proper if every time the National Anthem is sung with pride and not just when the match is against Pakistan ! (Loksatta, 31.3.2011)

10.G.2. Congratulations to Indian spectators to force the officials of International Cricket Board to render apology for trampling balloons set in the form of National Flag; but such balloons always result in insult of National Flag, therefore, see to it that their manufacture is stopped ! : On 30.3.2011, officials of International Cricket Board reprimanded a person selling balloons at Mohali and they trampled the balloons which were in the form of our National Flag. The International Cricket Board has rendered apology for insulting India and hurting feelings of Indians taking a serious note of the enragement of Indian spectators.’
