O Hindus, join the fight of HJS against demolition of Hindu Temples by Karnataka Govt

Success for Hindu Janajagruti Samiti !

Gadag (Karnataka): Three days ago 120 temples were declared as unofficial and were being demolished at Gadag and Betgeri in Gadag district. About 70 temples were to be demolished but Hindu Janajagruti Samiti and proud Hindus from Gadag registered their opposition and forced the government to issue a stay order to stop the demolition with immediate effect. (Congratulations to the proud Hindus who united to protect the temples ! – Editor SP)

For the past few months Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has been fighting for the rights of temples in Karnataka for the past few months. In this regard the Samiti had met Mr. Nanadkumar, Assistant Secretary to Chief Minister last month. At this time he had given an assurance that a directive would be sent to all district commissioners to study in detail every religious centre, take all related people into confidence, issue notices legally and only then take a decision regarding temples. He had also given an assurance that a special meeting of the state cabinet would be held to discuss this issue. In spite of these assurances 120 temples in Gadag have been demolished. (By not abiding by assurances given by them and by performing the despicable act of demolishing temples, is the BJP government in Karnataka trying to find the limits of Hindu tolerance ? – Editor SP)

Hence activists of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti met Dr. V. S. Acharya – Minister for Religious department. When he was informed about the temple demolition at Gadag, he expressed doubts about the temple demolition. Later he spoke to the Gadag district commissioner and confirmed with him the demolition of temples at Gadag. Then he said, “These temples were probably creating a lot of trouble to residents of Gadag and the district commissioner may have demolished only those temples built after 2009 as per the directive of the Supreme Court.” The Samiti activists informed him that what he is saying is not correct. A number of temples are more than 30 years old; no official from any of the temples has been taken into confidence while some have not been given any notice but the temples have been demolished. On this Acharya said, “I will issue directives related to this matter to all districts tomorrow itself.”

The next day the remaining temples were to be demolished. Hence proud Hindus and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti met the district commissioner. The district commissioner said, “We made a mistake in demolishing the temples.”
(How fair is it to call the despicable act of temple demolition as a mistake ? If such a mistake had been committed with other religions then what they would have done needs no mention ! – Editor SP) He also said, “We will stop time activity for the time being. We will study every religious centre, take the related people into confidence and only then we will act.”
