Rejecting opposition by Congress and NCP, play on Nathuram Godse receive huge response

Thane (Maharashtra): A play named ‘Me Nathuram Godse Boltoy’ was organized at Gadkari Rangayatan. This play was opposed by the activists of Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP); but ignored by play enthusiasts and Hindus who gave a huge response and made the play a huge success.

The play was to start at 4:30 in the afternoon. Shiv Sena was strongly supporting the play. Producers of the play had decided to seek police protection and make the play successful. Around 3 pm, Corporator of Congress in Thane Corporation, Najib Mulla along with 30-35 activists came in three large vehicles to the theatre where the play was to be staged. They shouted anti-Nathuram Godse slogans. They tried to stage a ‘Rasta Bandh’ but the police prevented them from doing so. They took all activists in custody and away from the theatre. Opposition of Nationalist Congress party was also similarly squashed.

From 2 pm, play enthusiasts and Pro-Hindu activists arrived in large numbers to buy tickets. The theatre was completely filled with people at the start of the play. Even after the play started there was a huge crowd outside the theatre of play enthusiasts and Pr-Hindus. Police had kept a strong vigil at this place.

When the play was in progress, 3-4 Congress activists present among the viewers shouted slogans in praise of Gandhi. Shiv Sainiks caught them and threw them out. Outside slogans of Congress activists were given a fitting reply in the form of counter slogans by Hindu Maha Sabha activists. Mr. Eknath Shinde – Shiv Sena MLA and Contact Head for Thane District, District Vice-Head Mr. Naresh Maske, Mr. Pramod Joshi of Akhil Hindu Maha Sabha, BJP City Chief Mr. Sandeep Lele, Mr. Rocky Hindustani of VHP, and others supported the play. Those opposing the play erected large hoarding of the editorial in Daily Lok Satta titled ‘Muha Mein Ram Bagal Mein Nathuram’.

MLA Shri Eknath Shinde said, “When the ban on this play has been revoked 10 years back, why is there an opposition now ? What does this violent way of supporters of Gandhi, who always advocated non-violence, indicate? When you belong to the ruling party and still if you resort to such violent opposition then this has to be said that the state is being run on dictatorial lines and not on democratic principles !”

Yesterday Jitendra Awad has opposed the play but today he did not arrive at the site at all.

Sharad Ponkshe who played the role of Nathuram Godse said, “This is an attack on the freedom of thought, speech and expression. To oppose this play is not a sign of maturity of thoughts. Gandhi always taught that one should listen to the opposers. Gandhi was killed in 1948. Nathuram Godse was hanged as a result. So this matter has ended then. We are trying to present Nathuram’s side to the viewers. Now they have to decide what is right and what is wrong. This play was banned in 1998 and the ban was lifted in 2002. Since then people appreciate this play and hence it is still running; otherwise it would have stopped then.”
