We are protecting crooks and not God – reactions of police

Mumbai: Some of the policemen said, on the condition of anonymity, “How can we protect the one who protects the whole Universe? In fact, we are protecting crooks here.” After the State Government took over the management of Sree Siddhivinayak Temple Trust, it has come to light that there have been malpractices in utilization of the funds. In this background, police passed such sarcastic comments.

The Government is engaging more than 200 policemen everyday for security of the temple. The Trust has also set up modern security gadgets around the temple. There are 7 bulletproof police stations near the temple premises. The cost of each police station is Rs.1.00 lakh. A lot of money is spent on security measures. The construction of the security wall has blocked the road even for the local residents and the common public is undergoing a lot of inconvenience. Many bus-stops en route have also been cancelled.
