Declare stand regarding N.C.E.R.T.’s distorted history text; initiate immediate measures to curb temple thefts

Panaji (Goa): The National Council for Educational Research and Training (N.C.E.R.T.) has once again relegated Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to a subordinate position in its Std. VII history text viz. ‘Social Science – Our past – 2’.

The Government should clearly declare its stand in this regard instead of compelling Hindus to take to the streets time and again to get their demands fulfilled. Likewise, series of thefts in temples across the State is on the rise after the deplorable series of idol desecration incidents that occurred in the State in the recent past.

These incidents are an attack on Hindu Dharma and should be stopped immediately. These demands were made through demonstrations held by parents, teachers, students, various pro-Hindu organisations, devout Hindus, historians, etc. together under the leadership of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) at Panaji today. These demonstrations were held outside Sree Hanuman Temple at the KTC Bus Stand at Panaji.

The demonstrations were started by breaking a coconut at the hands of Mr. Parshuram Prabhudesai, a devout Hindu. At this time, the crowd present shouted slogans against N.C.E.R.T. for bringing out distorted history texts and the Congress government for being unable to curb the series of temple thefts in the State. The protestors were also holding relevant placards.

Also, lady protestors expressed their fury by beating chappals on symbolic representations (statues) of the N.C.E.R.T. and the passive Congress government of Goa. HJS’ Mr. Niranjan Chodankar addressed the crowd and demanded that pictures of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj with appropriate and suitable information be immediately included in N.C.E.R.T.’s Std. VII history text.

Also, a demand to initiate immediate action on concerned officials who are responsible for unnessarily burdening the government by hiking its printing expenditure by including those lessons glorifying Mughals that, as per Government directives, are not to be taught to students in the current academic year.

At this time, Goa State President of the Hindu Mahasabha Mr. Shivprasad Joshi, Divya Jagruti Trust’s Capt. (Retd.) Dattaram Sawant, Shivsena’s Mr. Ramesh Naik, Principal of Smt. Anandibai Naik High School, Karanzalem, Marcaim Mr. Umesh Naik, Std. VIII student from Pernem Mast. Shubham Parab, Std. VIII student from Hanjun Ms. Kalpita Gadekar also expressed their views.

At this time, an appeal was made to all Hindus to file police complaints against the derogatory paintings of Sree Ganesh by M.F. Husain exhibited at the Ruchika Art Gallery, Panaji. Various organisations such as the Shivsena, Divya Jagruti Trust, Hindu Mahasabha, Ranaragini group, Sanatan Sanstha, DharmaShakti Sena and the Amma Bhagwan sect had participated in the demonstrations.

350 devout Hindus were present for the demonstrations. The demands made in this demonstration will be presented through a memorandum to the Chief Minister on Monday, August 30.
