To be able to undertake spiritual practice the atmosphere has to be sattvik (sattva predominant). Raja-tama frequencies are constantly being generated by evildoers in society just like emission of sattva frequencies by saints. One is left with only one path and that is to destroy the very evildoers responsible for generation of raja-tama particles.

Why should one undertake spiritual practice most conducive to current period?
Time being infinite can be measured only in terms of yugs (eras). Everything changes with time. Spiritual practice in each of the four yugs is predetermined.
