In the olden times the subject of 'Dharma' (Righteousness) was an integral part of the Hindu education system. As the importance of Dharma was known, it was the central point of the Hindu life. With the passage of time, as Hindus stopped getting education on Dharma, the tendency of the Hindus to abide by Dharma naturally became less. Presently in majority of Hindus, the faith in Dharma and in Sadhana (Spiritual practice) has survived because of the various holy festivals, religious festivals and vowed religious observances and traditional religious acts. The various regular and occasional religious acts have acquired an important place in the Hindu social, cultural and spiritual life. The daily religious acts include all acts from the regular ritualistic worship, going to temple, to the rites performed after death. The reason for these religious acts being done even today with the same level of faith, is the first hand experience that all have had, of the proven Science of Spirituality in these acts.

If the person performing a religious act understands the exact Science in it, his belief in the act increases. Also, by understanding its importance, it is performed with more faith. Benefit of an act done with faith is greater. Similarly, best results are obtained only if the religious act is performed according to the Science of Spirituality. Presently available Granths (Holy texts) contain information on various religious acts, but no explanation is given of the cause-effect relationship at the subtle level in the acts. The special feature of the series of Granths 'What does Dharma say and why?' containing the knowledge obtained from God (Divine Knowledge), is that, besides explaining the subtle Science of Spirituality in the various religious acts, the correct methods of performing them are also mentioned. Although the methods described in these Granths may be different from the present prevalent methods, but as they are described from the view point of maximum spiritual benefit to the reader, any one considering these acts as ideal and performing them would spiritually benefit more out of it. In the past people would have faith in and do what their elders taught them. But the present generation wants to first know the scientific reason in  performing any act and only then will they accept it. Knowing the scientific reason in each religious act will aid the present generation in getting attracted towards Spirituality.

We pray unto the Guru's feet, to bestow good sense to all, to implement the religious acts explained in this series and they make rapid spiritual progress. - Editor
