1. Spiritually appropriate dresses of men as per Hindu culture

Amongst the dresses as per Hindu culture, the clothes like dhoti-uparana, dhoti-kurta, kurta-pyjama, silk dhoti, gamachha etc. are the appropriate and Sattvik dresses. According to the religious scriptures it is appropriate for men to wear dhoti-kurta everyday and a silk dhoti, that is, kaushey-uparana while performing a religious ritual and during festivals. Some people wear kurta-pyjama as it is not possible for them to wear a dhoti.

2. Dhoti

A dhoti, an uncut dress for men, prescribed by Hindu culture has been prevalent since ancient times. A dhoti is Sattvik because it is specially worn by the Deities. For this reason the benefit of Sattvikta available from wearing a dhoti is higher in comparison with other clothes.

2.1 Correct method of wearing a dhoti

  • Holding the dhoti with both hands bring it from behind the waist to the front in this manner.

  • Now leave open one arm length of the inner end of the dhoti held in the left hand.

  • Now bring the part of the dhoti held in the left hand to the right side in this manner.

  • Now bring the part of the dhoti held in the right hand to the left side in this manner.

  • Now tie tightly the part of the dhoti held in both the hands on the stomach, four fingers above the navel.

  • Thereafter bring the border of the left part behind through the two legs.

  • Now make the folds of this part of the dhoti behind the waist.

  • Now make the folds uniform.

  • Tuck these folds in the centre of the rear waist.

  • This is called a kanchh or lang of a dhoti.

  • Now make the folds of the right part of the dhoti, that is, the front part.

  • Now make the folds uniform.

  • Now tuck these folds from the front in the waistline just four fingers above the navel.

  • Thereafter make small folds of the front lower part of the dhoti. Again tuck these folds in the dhoti near the stomach.

Benefits of the above process of wearing dhoti:

  • Getting protection from the attacks of the negative energies: By wearing a dhoti four fingers above the navel, the layers of folds come on the navel. As a result the navel is fully protected from the attacks of the negative energies. If the navel is not covered with a cloth, it is easy for the negative energies to attack it and emit the black energy in the whole body through it. Contrary to this, because of the folds of the dhoti tucked in the front, the navel, the Swadhisthan-chakra and all the organs in the stomach are protected. Out of the nine openings of the body, the attacks of negative energies are in higher proportion on the genitals and the anus. The Jiva is protected from these attacks because of the protective cover of the folds of the kachha on them. Because of the folds, 4-5 layers of a dhoti are created one above the other. As a result the original Chaitanya in the dhoti remains conserved and the person wearing it gets the benefit of this Chaitanya for 24 hours. Due to the folds of the kachha Chaitanya is provided incessantly below the waist whereby the black energy over there is destroyed.

  • Imparting Chaitanya to Muladhar-chakra: With the folds tucked in the front and those of the kachha, necessary Chaitanya is provided to the Muladhar-chakra. As a result the centre of desire in the Muladhar-chakra is weakened. When such a Jiva undertakes Sadhana, his spiritual progress is fast.

  • Spirals of Chaitanya being generated around the Jiva and the Jiva getting continuous protection: Because of the method of wearing a dhoti, its many folds fall on the legs of the Jiva. For this reason the Chaitanya in the dhoti keeps flowing and ciculates around the body of the Jiva. A spiral is created around the body. As a result, the Jiva is constantly protected.

2.2 Why folds of dhoti are not wrapped around the body similar to nine yards saree?

Folds of a saree are wrapped while wearing a nine-yard saree. This is not done while wearing a dhoti. The reason is that the body of a woman is basically delicate and the womb is inside the stomach cavity. With the Chaitanya present in enormous proportion in the knot of the folds, the womb remains constantly protected.

2.3 Subtle effects of wearing a dhoti

A. The effects on the person wearing a dhoti - ‘Dhoti is the energy source of Chaitanya.’: When men stand with their feet together after wearing a dhoti, a shape synonymous to the English alphabet ‘W’ is formed in the downward direction of the dhoti. Through its centre point the inherent energy in the dhoti is emitted continuously in the upward direction. Hence, it is perceived subtly that just as Sri Lakshmi stands in the lotus, similarly the person is standing in the sheath of the inherent energy emitted by the dhoti. This upward the inherent energy in the dhoti is transmitted towards the person wearing the dhoti like the plume of smoke arising after putting Dhoop (Black incense) on the live coals during puja and a protective sheath is formed around him. This energy spreads in the body of the person also. Hence, the person wearing the dhoti keeps swimming in the pool of Chaitanya continuously. The back covering on him is destroyed. The presence of negative energies is also reduced. As a result the Jiva’s presence is strengthened. This helps the Jiva in becoming introverted and inculcating Divine qualities.

B. The changes after wearing dhoti in the people distressed with negative energies: Ms. Ranjana saw some people affected by negative energies wearing a dhoti instead of a pant. Ms. Ranjana perceived that the energy of the negative energies present in them had reduced as compared to before. As a result, the manifestation of negative energies in the people had also reduced. Ms. Ranjana felt calm after looking at them.

2.4 Difference in a seeker distressed by negative energy when wearing a shirt-pant and thereafter wearing dhoti regularly

Subtle reading by Ms. Ranjana, of a seeker distressed by negative energy on wearing a shirt-pant:

  • The sorcerer from Hell, distressing the seeker was manifesting in him.

  • Anger showed on the face of the seeker and she felt that there were continuous reactions in the seeker’s mind.

  • Due to the manifestation of the sorcerer, the seeker’s temperament had become irritable, angry and egoistic.

Subtle reading by Ms. Ranjana, of the seeker distressed by negative energy on wearing a dhoti

  • After wearing a dhoti by the seeker distressed with negative energy, the sternness on his face while wearing the pant-shirt reduced.

  • The seeker's own presence gained prominence over the sorcerer’s presence.

  • As a result, the chaos of his emotions reduced and the seeker experienced calmness.

  • After sometime, thoughts of Bhav started arising in the seekers mind. Gentleness, Bhav and bliss started showing on his face.

  • His conduct showed humility and patience.

The subtle reading by Ms. Ranjana shows that wearing a dhoti is beneficial from a spiritual viewpoint.

2.5 Process of spiritual healing through the dhoti

  • The lower portion of the body has more propensity to absorb energy emanating from the Hell region (Patal). A void of a specific shape is created upon wearing a dhoti. This void resists the energy emanating from the Hell region (Patal) and instantly destroys the black energy entering the body. This void in the dhoti repels the attacks of negative energies taking place within the body and disintegrates the black energy.

  • The white colour of the dhoti drives back the attacks of the negative energies from the outer atmosphere.

3. Kurta

Kurta is worn with a dhoti. This is an ideal and appropriate dress that provides Sattvikta to a person.

Spiritual experience on wearing a dhoti-kurta: By wearing a dhoti-kurta for a week, ceasing of attack by negative energies from outside; no burning in the legs as before and experiencing cool and warm vibrations in the legs: I used to constantly experience a sensation of burning in my legs. Due to the burning, I would not be able to keep my soles on the ground. On 15th July 2008, I wore a dhoti for half a day for the first time. Thereafter, due to some reason I wore a pant instead of the dhoti. It was then that I realised that the burning in my legs had stopped on wearing dhoti. After wearing a pant the burning sensation in my legs recommenced again. The next day, I wore a dhoti during the entire day and there was no burning in my legs. From that time onwards I have been wearing a dhoti and kurta everyday. After wearing a dhoti, I experienced another change that, ‘I felt both cool and warm vibrations in my calf muscles.’ Towards the lower part of my legs, where the border of the dhoti lies, I experienced coolness and above it I felt a little warm sensation. Now I am able to place my feet on the ground comfortably. Thus I realised that by wearing a dhoti the attacks of negative energies from outside ceases and the black energy within the body is also removed. - Mr. Mukul Gadgil

Mr. Gadgil used to experience burning sensation in his legs due to the attacks of negative energy from outside. As the dhoti is in one peice, Chaitanya flows in a greater proportion in its threads. Chaitanya is acquired by wearing a dhoti due to which, the black energy present in the body exits. As a result Mr. Gadgil experienced warmth. This Chaitanya is emitted from the border of the dhoti. Due to this Mr. Gadgil experienced coolness at that place. The educational spiritual experience of Mr. Gadgil and its underlying spiritual science shows that wearing dhoti-kurta is beneficial from a spiritual viewpoint and it protects from negative energies as well.

3.1 Kurta with full sleeves

For the average Jivas who do not do Sadhana, only a full-sleeved kurta along with a dhoti is beneficial. A kurta with full sleeves has more ability to conserve the attracted frequencies. Similarly, this kurta also emits the frequencies of inferior desire-energy (Iccha-shakti). As the full-sleeved kurta covers the entire body of the person, it has the ability to purify the body of the person wearing it. With the touch of the full sleeve to the wrist of the person, this part becomes sensitive and the person gets the strength to take action through the frequencies of desire-energy. When the average Jivas not doing Sadhana wears a full-sleeved kurta that covers the entire body, they are protected from the negative energies.

3.2 Kurta with half sleeves

The persons doing Sadhana have the ability to attract the frequencies of superior Principles in the environment. So it is beneficial for the seekers and disciples to wear a half-sleeved kurta. By wearing a half-sleeved kurta, the ability of such persons to absorb and emit the frequencies of superior Principles in the atmosphere increases. A half-sleeved kurta has higher ability to emit the already absorbed frequencies of superior Principle. This kurta also has the ability to purify the environment around the person’s body. When a half-sleeved kurta is worn, the action-energy in the person’s body is awakened with the touch of the sleeve and it provides momentum to the thoughts of doing Karma. By wearing a half-sleeved kurta, a protective sheath is created around the bodies of the persons of the seeker and disciple level. For this reason it becomes possible to fight the attacks of the negative energies. The bodies of Saints are full of Chaitanya. This is the reason why the type of clothes they wear is not important. From this the importance of wearing of clothes as per spiritual level is highlighted.

3.3 Subtle effect of wearing Kurta and dhoti

Effect of kurta with full sleeves at subtle level:

  • The frequencies of Sagun Chaitanya flow in the full-sleeved kurta and they are emitted in the atmosphere.

  • The particles of Sagun destroyer energy are emitted from this kurta.

  • Similarly the particles of Absolute Air Principle are also emitted.

  • The clouds of illsory Raja-Tama energy are emitted from a kurta.

Effect of dhoti at subtle level:

  • As a dhoti contains Sattvikta, its folds emit Shanti.

  • The particles of Anand spread in the dhoti.

  • Mild Chaitanya flows from the folds of the dhoti.

  • The flows of Chaitanya with the particles of Shanti contained in them are transmitted from the dhoti to the kurta. With this the active energy in a kurta is weakened.

  • Energy is emitted from the dhoti. With this energy the Raja-Tama cover around a person is reduced.

  • While walking, Anand and Shanti are spread in the atmosphere in a mild momentum through the dhoti.

The person who wears Sattvik clothes is no doubt benefitted, but it also affects the surrounding persons and atmosphere.

Spiritual experience - Increase in the Chaitanya present in the atmosphere due to the dhoti-kurta worn by seekers in a wedding ceremony, thereby resulting in increase in the gratitude and respect for the seekers: Wedding ceremony of a seeker was arranged in April 2006. On this occasion 6-7 seekers of Miraj hermitage of Sanatan Sanstha in Maharashtra had worn white dhotis and kurtas. All the seekers wearing the Sattvik dress entered the hall together. There was a sudden increase in Chaitanya in the atmosphere. Chaitanya was absorbed by the sattvik dress of the seekers and was emitted in the atmosphere. That time I imagined Dwaparyug and my spiritual emotion towards God awakened. Due to the Sattvik dress worn by the seekers, a feeling of gratitude and respect arose in my mind. I felt that divinity was generated in them and I was becoming humble at their Holy Feet. I did a subtle mental Namaskar and my mind experienced Shanti. - Ms. Gayatri Butte, Maharashtra.

This spiritual experience of Ms. Gayatri endorses the spiritual science of the beneficial effects of Sattvik clothes and the importance of observing Achars is also understood. This shows what in-depth thought Sanatan Hindu Dharma has given to the environment benefitting from every act of a person.

On wearing a dhoti, the persons get benefits at different levels as per their individual spiritual level, the spiritual emotion in them and their distress of negative energy, like:

  • Alleviation of depression.

  • Prayer and commencing of chanting.

  • Each action being done with spiritual emotion.

  • Experiencing enthusiasm.

  • Mind becoming thoughtless.

  • Experiencing that a cool spiral is moving around the body.

  • Experiencing absorption of Divine frequencies.

  • Experiencing Shanti

  • Remembering Srivishnu at the very sight of a dhoti

4. Experiment using Electrosomatographic Scanning Method

In the ‘Electrosomatographic Scanning’ technique, observations about the various bio-electric regulatory zones of the body are obtained. Through this method, information is obtained about the bio-electric energy zones associated with the seven chakras. This technique uses very low electric current and the information is made available with the help of a computer. A mechanical device known as DDFO is used. In this method, electrodes are taped to the hands, soles and the forehead and information is obtained using computer technology.

In this experiment two groups of seekers were selected.

  • Those not distressed by negative energies

  • Those distressed by negative energies.

The experiment was conducted on the two groups as follows. First, baseline readings were noted of bio-electric regulatory zones associated with the sapta-chakras of seekers wearing pant-shirts. Later, the seekers were asked to wear dhoti-kurtas and the readings of the bio-electric regulatory zones associated with the sapta-chakras of seekers were taken at regular intervals. After this, once again the seekers wore pant-shirts and for a certain time period, the readings were taken of bio-electric regulatory zones associated with their sapta-chakras. The sapta-chakras function in two groups.

  • The upper four chakras, that is, Anahat, Vishuddha, Adnya and Sahasrar-chakra

  • The lower three chakras, that is, Manipur, Swadhishthan and Muladhar-chakra

The figure indicating a change in the bio-electric regulatory state associated with the sapta-chakras either changes to more negative or positive. A shift to the negative side indicates that the chakra has become inert and when the shift is to the positive side, it indicates that the chakra has been activated.

Summary of the observations in the Electrosomatographic experiment about wearing a dhoti-kurta:

Observations in seekers not distressed by negative energies:

  • After wearing a dhoti-kurta, there was a reduction in the inertness of the four chakras in the upper portion of the body.

  • Upon wearing a pant-shirt, there was an increase in the inertness of the four chakras in the upper portion of the body.

A reduction in the inertness of the upper four chakras after wearing a dhoti-kurta, means that these chakras were able to absorb the Sattva component in a short period and these chakras started to enhance it in the body. Therefore the conclusion is that, by wearing a dhoti-kurta, the temperament of a seeker not affected by negative energies becomes Sattva predominant. This conclusion is supported by the spiritual experiences the participating seekers had during the experiment.

4.1 Spiritual experience of a seeker not distressed by negative energy

Chanting becoming better and the mind becoming thoughtless upon wearing a dhoti-kurta: On 20th January 2009, I participated in an experiment using the Electrosomatographic scanning method, to experience the difference upon wearing a pant-shirt and a dhoti-kurta. Observations and study of this was done four times in a day. I experienced a lot of change in my self, after I wore a dhoti-kurta one whole day and night. I felt that the dhoti-kurta was Sattvik, when compared to the pant-shirt. My chanting became better and the mind was thoughtless for a longer period upon wearing a dhoti-kurta. - Mr. Prakash Marathe

4.2 Observation of seekers distressed by negative energies

  • After wearing a dhoti-kurta, there was a reduction in the inertness of the sapta-chakras.

  • After wearing a pant-shirt, there was an increase in the inertness of the sapta-chakras.

This means, after wearing a pant-shirt, there is a materialisation of Tama component in the body of a person. With the collection of black energy, the sapta-chakras become inert. Hence, the conclusion here is,

  • Upon wearing a pant-shirt, the temperament of a seeker becomes negative.

  • The Sattva component in a dhoti-kurta reduces the Raja-Tama predominant black energy in the chakras. This activates the chakras and reduces their inertness.

Spiritual experience of Mr. Vijay, a seeker distressed by negative energy: Mr. Vijay says that he is severely distressed by negative energy. For the past seven years, he had a strong dislike for dhoti-kurta. Just by looking at this dress, he would feel intense anger. If someone would ask him about wearing this dress, he would say that the issue did not concern him and he would avoid the topic. Mr. Vijay also participated in the Electrosomatographic scanning experiment to study the effect of wearing a dhoti-kurta. This experiment was conducted on 19th January 2009, for which Mr. Vijay had to wear a dhoti-kurta. During the experiment, Mr. Vijay started to experience a burning sensation at his Anahat-chakra. After some time, his distress reduced and he started to experience some good sensation at his Anahat and other chakras. He felt something changing in himself. The following day, his chanting started to occur with the pace of his breathing.

Thus by wearing a dhoti-kurta, there was a reduction in the distress of Mr. Vijay and he started getting good spiritual experiences. The similarity in the spiritual experiences of seekers and the observations made with the DDFAO machine proves that from a spiritual viewpoint, wearing a dhoti-kurta is more appropriate than wearing a pant-shirt. A person is not affected much even if he wears a pant-shirt after having worn a dhoti-kurta for some time.
